These images are all based on digital and film photos taken by Michael.
One or two main images determine the overall idea of the picture to be, and become the first layers in my editing program. I keep adding images above or below them and blend them together.
As the "stack" of layers grows, I experiment with different ways of making the images merge and interact with each other. I dial in more or less of each layer, or let through only certain parts, so that the textures, shapes, and details appear only where and how I prefer to see them in the final image.
The base material for these pictures are photos that were taken with a number of analog
and digital cameras over a few decades. I develop my own film, taking advantage of different
film stocks and chemicals. The visual disasters I produced in learning how to do this have actually
been a reason to start repairing editing my photos.
